Is Yamaha Serious About Bringing in the World's Cheapest Bike?

Yamaha India is setting up to develop a motorcycle which would cost around Rs. 28,000. This would be the world’s cheapest motorcycle and the company is planning to launch this affordable and economical motorcycle for the Indian and African bike market. Presently Yamaha has a very marginal share in the low end commuter segment. The most popular bikes of Yamaha in the low end segment are the YBR110 and Crux. The main motive of Yamaha to launch low price motorcycle is to increase its share in the Indian Bike market. Yamaha is looking forward to give a strong battle to Honda, which recently launched Honda Dream Yuga price tag of Rs. 44,642. It is also projected that Yamaha might get a tough rivalry from Hero Motocorp, which is also looking to bring its economical motorcycle under the price range of Rs. 30,000.

Yamaha Yzf R15

This new bike from Yamaha would be produced in India and exported to other under-developed countries. Till date, Yamaha Crux 110cc is the cheapest motorcycle from Yamaha bikes, which comes with a price tag of Rs. 38,365. Whereas the cheapest motorcycle in India is Hero CD Dawn, which comes with a price tag of Rs. 36,300. Recently Yamaha announced its plans to invest Rs. 1500 crore to build a new plant in Chennai to enhance its production capacity. It is expected that this new low cost motorcycle will be manufactured in this plant only and will be exported to Africa.

Yamaha as the brand is recognized for premium and power performance motorcycles like the FZS, Fazer, Yamaha Yzf R15 etc. These are bikes that are known for the superior performances but also for their high end prices as compared to other brands in the segment. And now it is coming with a cheap motorcycle. Will Yamaha be able to deliver similar kind of performance with its low price bike? Only time can tell how efficient the bike would be and whether it would be able to match up to the high performance that the Yamaha premium bikes offer. However, with Yamaha entering the market of entry level bikes, it would be interesting to watch the battle between the bike makers in the low end motorcycle market. Entry Level Motorcycle Segment Entering into a New Level of Competition

Indian two wheeler market is reckoned as one of the biggest two wheeler market in the world after Chinese two wheeler market. There have been many companies that have recently launched some of their new bike variants in the Indian market. Honda India has recently launched Honda Dream Yuga which is the cheapest in the Honda bikes lineup. Honda Dream Yuga is 4 stoke bike with an engine capacity of 109 cc, this vehicle will be directly competing with like of Hero Moto Corp Splendor and Passion Pro. Another Japanese based company Suzuki India also launched their entry level commuter vehicle on Indian roads. Suzuki recently launched Suzuki Hayate, and this vehicle will be giving a good competition to all its competitors who have their variants in 125 cc segment. Apart from being fuel efficient, Suzuki Hayate comes at a  very low price too.

Bajaj bikes has been leading the brand wagon for this segment, and is the manufacturer of most popular bikes in India. They have also launched a new variant called Bajaj Discover 4G. Bajaj Discover 100 4G is a successor of Bajaj Discover 100, though there is no much difference between two, the only noticeable difference is that Bajaj Discover 4G is fitted with four speed gear box and Bajaj Discover 100 sported  five speed gear box. Bajaj Auto also has discontinued the production of Bajaj Discover 100 as it was not living upto company’s expectations.

The new Bajaj Discover 4G will also be costing less in comparison with its predecessor. The main reason for this major influx is because this segment is growing very rapidly, and all two wheeler companies who operate in India want to make maximum out of this segment by introducing entry level bikes in this segment. Indian buyer now have some of the best of options, and can manipulate their preferences depending upon the offerings from various two wheeler companies. I shared that Honda CB Shine Riding Slow but Steady and Honda Launches the Efficient Commuter.

Honda Launches the Efficient Commuter

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India [HMSI], is all geared to launch their new vehicle Honda Dream Yuga on Indian roads. Honda bikes have not included much design factor in this vehicle, they have kept this vehicle simple and down to earth. Honda Dream Yuga is a 110 cc commuter vehicle which is expected to be very eco friendly as all the vehicles from Honda have been and most importantly this is a very fuel efficient vehicle and is expected to give mileage around 72 KMPL.Honda Dream Yuga was first seen at Auto Expo in New Delhi, which was held earlier this year. The vehicle was received by most of the visitors who had visited Honda stall. Honda is keeping its expectations high with Honda Dream Yuga, as it would compete with its arch rival Hero MotoCorp vehicles.

Honda Dream Yuga will directly compete with Hero MotoCorp Splendor, Passion Pro vehicles. Like Splendor  which comes with some basic features, Honda also has planned on the same lines and kept the new Dream Yuga very simple and making it more cost effective. This vehicle is best suited for professionals who travel long distances on day to day basis as this vehicle is very fuel friend and also comes at a very affordable cost. If we check on Honda Dream Yuga price this vehicle is priced at Rs. 40, 000 [Ex Showroom - New Delhi]. Honda Dream Yuga will have to face additional competition from its Japanese counterpart Suzuki who has recently launched its 110 cc vehicle Suzuki Hayate in the Indian two wheeler market at a price of Rs. 40, 162 [Ex Showroom - New Delhi].

Looking at Honda Dream Yuga review , this vehicle is simple, with no much additional accessories, and is expected to arrive in five different shades. Honda Dream Yuga is fitted with single cylinder four stroke air cooled engine which has a displacement of 110 cc and has the ability to produce power upto 9 PS at 7500 rotations per minute and a torque of 9 NM at 6000 rotations per minute. The engine is matted to a four speed gear box, and the vehicle is available with electric start option and kick start option. If we look at the Honda Dream Yuga pictures of Honda Dream Yuga, this bike is very much similar to Honda Shine which is one of the most popular bikes in HMSI lineage. The 110 cc engine fitted to Honda Dream Yuga is also seen on Honda CB Twister, which is high on fuel efficiency. HMSI wants to create huge hype for their products and for this reason this company has recently signed a contract with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who will be the brand ambassador for HMSI for next five years. HMSI has shelled out huge amount of 50 crore to strike a deal with the bollywood action hero. I shared that Hero Motocorp comes with 109cc displacement and Bajaj Unveils Bajaj Discover 100 cc with 4 Gears.
