Piaggio India and Honda both are recognized for producing quality vehicles. Piaggio is an Italian based company and Honda is Japanese based firm. Piaggio has recently returned to India with its Piaggio Vespa LX 125 which was launched on 26 April, 2012. Piaggio entered the Indian market way back in 1980’s. If we flip back into the past, initially this company partnered with Bajaj Company, but this partnership did not long last as a result this Piaggio partnered with another Indian two wheeler manufacturing company LML. Now this Italian brand is again in India, but this time with a difference, Piaggio has entered Indian market on its own without partnering without any local partnership. They have also set up their own facility center at Baramati, which is located in state of Maharashtra. This new variant from Piaggio could give good competition to Japanese two wheeler manufacturers like Honda.
Honda has cemented itself in gearless scooter in India. Honda has been producing top of the line gearless scooters in India, which include Honda Activa, Honda Dio, and Honda Aviator. Honda not only rules the gearless scooter segment in India but also Honda bikes are also doing good business in the bike segment. Honda Activa is fitted with 102 cc engine. On the other hand if compare with Japanese two wheeler with Italian brand Piaggio Vespa, the Italian brand has a higher engine displacement, Honda Activa is more fuel efficient than Piaggio Vespa LX. Both these vehicles are fitted with Alloy wheels and Piaggio Vespa has a greater wheel base than Honda Activa. Piaggio Vespa is fitted with 8 liter fuel tank capacity and Honda Activa has 6 liter fuel tank capacity, and the Italian brand has greater ground clearance in comparison to Honda Activa. Piaggio has entered in the lifestyle premium brand segment and is hoping to make Scooters a symbol of luxury once again. Though too soon to comment but it looking at the past, the Hondas and Bajajs of India might actually have to be on an alert and ready for a defensive response if the need be.
